Regulation belt made of blackened leather.  This pattern belt and japanned iron friction buckle seems to have appeared in 1862.  It is specifically detailed as a regulation issue item by the 4th edition of the Ordnance Manual.

This specimen is in good condition. Overall length is approximately 42 inches. Has some stampings put on the belt from use following the Civil War, “ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL” (done during a post-war inventory) and “A&M COLLEGE”.

Leather shows light wear with surface crazing. Additional belt holes were added. Leather remains flexible.    [jet] [ph:L]
