This non-excavated Federal belt plate is of the regulation 1839 pattern. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear “US”. Face shows only small dings and has a nice bright patina. Lead filled back retains 100% of lead fill. No maker’s mark. This is the style with brass “arrow” hooks; all three hooks remain.
Plate is attached to a regulation bridle leather enlistedman’s waist belt. The belt measures approximately 40” long by 1.75” wide. End of belt opposite the plate shows that there once was a brass “keeper” attached, which is no gone.
A fine Civil War waist belt. [jet] [ph:L]
