A light weight, die stamped rolled brass belt plate with raised border and script letters “SNY” in the center. See O’Donnell and Campbell Plate 868 for this plate. There are several variations, with the letters integral or applied to the plate. This is lightweight plate for dress wear. The SNY is a nice continuation of the M1839 oval State of New York belt plates seen on the state’s early Civil War volunteer regiments. This has wide applied belt hook on the back and standing loop for the belt, tightened with a brass wire loop, with the plate hooking on to a similar brass wire loop on the other end of the belt.
