This unissued, buff leather, Model-1851 sword belt comes complete with sword hangers and all matching brass hardware. This “artillery” belt was never intended to have the shoulder strap.

The belt leather is in clean, unissued condition, with brown dyed exterior and “white” interior. The hanger ends show a slight bend, indicating a heavy sword was once attached, but in this case, likely only while on display at the museum. Overall, the whole piece remains in very fine condition. Hand stitching is very strong and intact throughout. All brass wears a pleasing dark tone.

The belt plate features a beautiful three-piece German silver wreath surrounding a proud Federal eagle. The stamped bench mark numbers (553) on the plate and keeper match.

Belt measures approximately 36" in length and 1.75" in width. Long and short hangers have brass “buttons” and the “J-hook” is found at the top of the short hanger.

This belt was acquired from the Texas Civil War Museum collection. [jet] [ph:L]
