This non-excavated Federal belt plate is of the regulation 1839 pattern. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear “US”. Face shows no damage and has a nice tone. Lead filled back retains 100% of lead fill. No maker’s mark. This is the style with brass “arrow” hooks; all three hooks remain.
Plate is attached to a regulation bridle leather enlistedman’s waist belt. The belt measures approximately 40” long by 2” wide. End of belt opposite the plate has a brass “keeper” attached. Belt leather shows light surface wear, mostly along edges. A maker’s stamp (R. NECE / PHILAD) and a sub-inspector’s stamp are found to the left of the belt plate.
A fine Civil War waist belt. [jet] [ph:L]
