This is a fine Civil War Navy set consisting of a waist belt, a cutlass frog, and a friction primer pouch with 100 count “Cannon Caps” tin inside.

The black, buff leather waist belt is in very fine condition. The leather is 1.75” wide by approximately 39” long. There is a sewn belt loop on one end and a brass hook riveted to the other. There is no “belt plate” for this style as the brass hook was the device holding the belt closed.

The scabbard frog for the Model 1860 Naval Cutlass is mounted on the belt. It is constructed of black, buff leather. The frog measures 4.25” at widest point by 8” tall. This piece is also in very fine, likely unissued condition.

Also mounted on the waist belt is a leather box to hold friction primers. The box is relatively square in shape to accommodate the friction primer packs. Inside this pouch is a tin box, painted orange, with “100 / CANNON CAPS” on the lid. Single wide belt loop, brass finial, and outer flap to cover the contents. Manufacturer mark on the inside, "US.N.Y / BOSTON". This box is in very good condition. The outer flap is smooth and clean with only minor wrinkling. There are no markings on outer flap. The latch tab remains complete and unbroken. All of the leather is soft and pliable and stitching is still tight.

This is a very fine condition Navy waist belt set acquired from the Texas Civil War Museum collection.   [jet] [ph:L]
