Well-used, buff leather cavalry sword belt. The “buff” leather surfaces are now nearly smooth from wear and the soldier’s regular cleaning. The leather is strong and supple with no weak spots. There is no shoulder support strap (Sam Brown belt), nor either of the sword traces (hangers). The brass hardware for these straps is still sewn on the belt.
The belt plate is the Model 1851 NCO plate with applied German silver wreath. The keeper and plate have matching numbers, “959”.
This is a used example of a Civil War cavalry sword belt. [jet][ph:L]
