Standard issue 1839 pattern enlistedman’s white buff leather belt with a typical, large US buckle. The belt is 1.75” wide and approximately 38” long. The leather shows light use, with the exterior surface showing subtle traces of white paint or chalk used to make the belt appear “clean” following field use. The belt remains soft and is very supple, with no weak points, tears, nor any maker stamps. The inside on belt has a covered-up name over “Co. A.”
The buckle measures 53mm x 87mm. The die-struck, rolled brass face is in fine condition with a mottled mix of tarnished tones. The specimen’s lead backing has the “puppy-paw” style of hooks and clasp device. Lead itself is smooth and free of corrosion.
A very nice white buff leather M1839 belt. [jet][ph:L]
