This is a complete percussion cap pouch. The leather is clean and the whole piece is in very good overall condition. This pattern has the integral closing tab as an extension of the outer flap. The outer flap shows minor scuffs and some cracking to the finish. An oval sub-inspector’s stamp is in the center. The latch tab is unbroken. The interior flap is supple with “S.H. YOUNG / & CO. / NEWARK / N.J.” clearly stamped. Both inner “ears” remain firmly sewn in place. No fleece remains but the wire pick remains in place. Bottom has brass finial. Both narrow belt loops remain in place on back and are stitched and riveted. All stitching is strong and intact.
An original Civil War cap pouch. [jet]
