This is a hinged cartridge box to carry the .30-40 cartridges for the Krag rifle.
The box is made of brown bridle leather. The front has an embossed oval with “US” on the center of the flap. The box is hinged at the bottom using a brass rod as a hinge. A closing tab is sewn to the back of the box and closes over a brass finial mounted on the top of the front half. Two sewn belt loops on the back.
Web loops inside for twenty .30-40 cartridges. A pocket on the side for a combination tool. Clearly stamped on one side “ROCK ISLAND / ARSENAL / 1909 / T.C.C.”
