The leather on this box is in fair condition and has been treated with a leather preservative that has left behind a sticky residue. The outer flap has a good bit of surface finish loss and is complete but for the lower right corner which has chipped. The latch tab is attached to the underside of the flap by a single row of stitching. The surface of the tab is heavily worn but still solid.
The inner flap is in nicer condition than the outer flap. It is smooth with light crazing. Both ears are present and clearly stamped into the lower face of the flap is “MANUFACTORED BY J. E. CONDICT 57 WHITE STREET.”
The interior of the box matches the condition of the exterior. The tin is still present and is divided at top into three sections. The implement pocket is stiff but complete. The bottom of the box has a rounded brass finial. Both of the roller buckles are gone.
The back of the box has two belt loops in good condition. The back surface like the rest of the box is sticky with preservative residue.
This is a rare box in passable condition. [ad] [ph:L]
