Pattern 1864 US cartridge box in good condition, likely unissued. The outer flap is boldly embossed “US” and has an oval sub inspector’s stamp on the lower, right corner “G.T. WOODBURY”. The latch-tab is stitched and riveted and is the only part of the box.
The inner flap has a maker’s stamp “W.H. WILKINSON / MAKER / SP’GF’LD,MASS.” and retains both ears. The implement pouch is complete. The bottom of the box features the typical brass finial and both roller buckles. The belt and sling loops on the back show no signs of wear. There are two bright tins inside.
This entire box exhibits no wear. Stitching is tight in all places. Overall, this cartridge box is in very nice and super solid condition. [jet] [ph:L]
