Pattern 1861 US cartridge box in good condition. The outer flap is adorned with the lead-filled, stamped brass “US” cartridge box plate. The brass plate exhibits a smooth dark patina. This plate is held in place by remnants of the original leather thong. There is considerable “crazing” of the bridle leather surface overall. The latch-tab is missing.
The inner flap is marked “H.A. DINGEE / N-YORK”. The two side “ears” are both missing.
The implement pouch is complete and good in every way. Both cartridge tins remain in place. The bottom of the box features the typical brass finial and both roller buckles. All stitching remains strong. Belt loops attached to the back.
A decent example of a Civil War cartridge box. [jet] [ph:L]
