Pattern 1864 U.S. cartridge box in wonderful condition. The outer flap features an attractive brass accoutrement plate with raised “US” affixed over the embossed “US”. The lead-filled, brass plate is held in place with a modern finishing nail. The latch-tab is stitched and riveted and remains whole and unbroken.
The inner flap has a bold maker’s stamp “R. NECE / PHILAD” and oval sub-inspector’s stamp. One of the side “ears” remains firmly attached, the other is missing. The implement pouch is complete and good in every way.
Both cartridge tins remain in place. The bottom of the box features the typical brass finial and both roller buckles. Stitching remains strong. Belt loops attached to the back.
A very nice Civil War cartridge box. [jet] [ph:L]
