Pattern 1864 U.S. cartridge box in nice, complete condition. The outer flap features an embossed “US”. Bottom corners of the outer flap feature a maker’s and sub-inspector’s oval stamp. “E.A. CROSSMAN & CO. NEWARK, N.J.” and “J.C. MILLER U.S. ORD. DEPT. SUB-INSPECTOR”. The closing latch-tab is stitched and riveted and remains whole and unbroken. There are a few small rubs and scuffs on the face with wear along the outside edges.
The inner flap is unmarked and has both side “ears” firmly attached. The implement pouch is complete and good in every way.
Both cartridge tins remain in place. The bottom of the box features the typical brass finial and both japanned roller buckles. Stitching remains strong. Belt loops attached to the back.
A very nice Civil War cartridge box. [jet] [ph:L]
