Pattern 1861 US cartridge box in good unissued condition. The outer flap is cut for “US” cartridge box plate but never had one mounted. There is scuffing of the bridle leather surface overall from storage. The latch-tab is complete and sewn to the underside of the flap.
The inner flap is marked “WATERTOWN / ARSENAL / 1863”. The two side “ears” remain firmly stitched to the inner flap.
The implement pouch is complete and good in every way. Both cartridge tins are complete and remain in place. The bottom of the box features the typical brass finial and both roller buckles. All stitching remains strong. Belt loops attached to the back.
A decent example of an unissued Civil War cartridge box. [jet] [ph:L]
