Pattern 1864 US cartridge box in displayable condition. The outer flap is boldly embossed “US” in the center, with sub-inspector stamp on lower, left corner. The latch-tab is stitched and riveted to the flap and remains whole and unbroken. Leather shows light crazing and a few scuffs.
The inner flap is unmarked and retains the two side “ears” and they remain firmly stitched in place. The implement pouch is complete and good and also unmarked.
There are no cartridge tins with this box. The bottom of the box features the typical brass finial and one of the roller buckles (the other is loose inside the box). All stitching remains strong. Belt loops attached to the back. Maker’s mark (Young) is stamped between the belt loops. Crazing and some scuffing over the body of the box.
A very displayable Civil War infantry cartridge box. [jet][ph:L]
