This is a Civil War percussion cap pouch. The leather is clean and the whole piece is in very good overall condition. This pattern has the integral closing tab as an extension of the outer flap.

The outer flap features a tooled edge and the latch tab remains unbroken. The interior flap is stamped “H.G. HAEDRICH”. Both inner “ears” remain firmly sewn in place. No fleece or nipple pick inside.

Bottom has brass finial. Both narrow belt loops remain in place on back and are stitched and riveted. All stitching is strong and intact.

Haedrich had been a harness maker and saddler in Philadelphia before the war and obtained U.S. government contracts for thousands of accouterments in 1862 and 1863. In 1864 he received a contract for 20,000 sets of infantry accouterments to be delivered to the Frankford Arsenal.

A very nice original maker-marked cap pouch.  [jet][ph:L]
