Very nice militia box. The exterior surfaces of the box are very good. The outer flap is as smooth and clean with slight crazing. The latch tab has no tears and is attached to the underside by straight line stitching. All stitching is tight. Brass box plate is firmly attached. Plate has the initials, “NHSM”.
Inner flap has slight crazing. Flap has both ears. Implement box has slight crazing. Tab and loop are present with no tears. Maker’s mark is present on the inner flap and reads, “A.W. DECROW, MAKER, BANGOR, ME”.
The interior body of the box and the implement pocket are very good. Tin insert with four sections is present.
Reverse matches the rest of the box in condition. Belt loops and iron roller buckles are all present. Sling loops are intact. Brass finial is present and has a slight buildup of verdigris. [sm][ph:L]
