The box is in good used condition. The outer flap is shield shaped with latch tab sewn to the underside of the flap. The leather surface shows some moderate wear from use, storage, and age. The latch tab is solid while the inner flap is in nice condition with both ears intact. The interior of the box has no remains of the lamb’s wool and there is no nipple pick. The body of the box is in nice condition with the brass finial present at bottom. The reverse has both well-worn belt loops which are attached by stitching. All seams are tight. A nice-looking Civil War cap box. [pe] [ph:L]
