Manufactured by Dingee, NY and totally complete in every respect, with the exception of one tin divider. Roller buckles, latch tab, US plate, belt loops, tins, tool pouch and even the original leather-thong plate-loop retainer are all present. The leather is sturdy and in almost wearable condition. The surface shows small scuffs and scratches with a few minor areas of flaking along the top flap. The rear belt loops show a “pinch” from period service on a belt. The front lower right corner flap has period “wrinkles” from being lifted for loading cartridges.

The brass US plate has a perfect untouched mellow patina with a few light dings and a leather thong on the rear of the flap that appears to have never been removed. Stitching is tight on the entire box. Tins are snug in the leather. As mentioned before, the right tin is missing the divider. That being the only flaw on an almost perfect Model 1861 Civil War cartridge box. [stp][ph:L]
