This is a black leather holster made to accommodate the Colt, Remington and other revolvers. The leather still shows a slight “profile” of a revolver cylinder. A Colt .44 caliber “Army” model fits into this.
The holster “pocket” measures 10 ¾” along its front edge. Holster is made of black bridle leather. The flap and belt loop are separate pieces, each sewn to the back. The original leather closing tab was sewn and riveted to the flap but is missing. What appears to be an original tab has been sewn in place; it is complete and unbroken. The associated brass finial also remains tightly attached.
Belt loop is approximately 3.5” wide along the top fold and is attached by three rivets and a double line of stitching. There is a 2” long tear on the top fold. The leather plug remains sewn in at the bottom of the holster. There are no makers stamps.
In overall very good condition, this holster shows use. “Body” remains in very good condition while the flap shows moderate crazing but little loss of the surface finish. This is a good, military-style flap holster that would accommodate a large Civil War revolver. [jet] [ph:L]
