This is a black leather holster made to accommodate the Colt, Remington, and other revolvers. A Colt .44 caliber “Army” model fits into this.
The holster “pocket” measures 10 ¾” along its front edge. Holster is made of black bridle leather. The flap and belt loop are separate pieces, each sewn to the back. The belt loop is also riveted. There is a 2” long tear on the back edge of the flap. The original leather closing tab is sewn and riveted to the flap and remains unbroken. The associated brass finial also remains tightly attached.
Belt loop is approximately 3.5” wide along the top fold and is attached by three rivets and a double line of stitching. The leather plug remains sewn in at the bottom of the holster. There are no makers stamps.
In overall very good condition, this holster shows use. “Body” remains in very good condition while the flap shows the previously mentioned tears.
This is a good, military-style flap holster that would accommodate a large Civil War revolver. From the Texas Civil War Museum collection. [jet] [ph:L]
