This is a non-regulation, left facing, black leather holster made for revolvers. A .36 caliber “Navy” model fits into this perfectly.
The holster “pocket” measures 11.5” along its front edge. Holster is made of a single piece of black bridle leather, folded and sewn along the back seam with the large flap also folded over. A narrow belt loop is riveted to the back. The leather closing tab is an extension of the flap and remains complete and unbroken. The flap and tab have a line cut along their edges. The associated finial is missing, but visible where it was once attached.
Belt loop is approximately 1.25” wide and will fit only a 1.25” wide belt; attached by rivets at top and bottom. There is no leather plug closing the end as it was simply sewn together as a continuation of the back seam. There are no maker’s stamps.
In overall very good condition, this holster shows use. Portions show crazing but leather is supple. Stitching is complete.
This is a good, military-style flap holster that would accommodate a Civil War revolver. From the Texas Civil War Museum collection. [jet] [ph:L]
