This is a non-regulation leather holster made to accommodate a revolver such as a Colt Pocket Model or one of the larger Smith & Wesson revolvers.
The holster measures 9” along the front edge of the pocket. Holster is made from one piece of fine, textured leather, black exterior with red interior, and sewn along rear seam. That seam had split and was unprofessionally resewn. Flap was held closed with a brass finial. The belt loop is 1.25” wide at the top, secured by rivets on top and bottom. Holster’s nose cap is gone.
Leather remains smooth and pliable and is in overall good condition. There are some “rubs” overall and additional wear in “high use” areas such as the “hinge” on the flap.
A faded, ink identification can be found on the underside of the flap. Unfortunately, we cannot decipher the owner’s name. Under the name is “New Paris, Ohio”.
This is an interesting, non-regulation flap holster of the civil War-era. [jet][ph:L]
