Black leather scabbard done in the same pattern as that used for the 1855 bayonet except the body is more oval shaped, formed to accept the four-edged blade of the Austrian Lorenz bayonet.
The leather body is in mint condition with a good tight seam running up the back. Tip has the similar brass finial as the Pattern 1855 bayonet scabbard; except with only two brads.
Arched leather frog is in perfect condition. The frog is attached to the scabbard by stitching and two rivets.
This scabbard was produced in the United States and supplied to many units as a replacement for broken scabbards.
Item is scabbard only. There is no bayonet.
This pattern scabbard, in this condition, is a rare find. [jet] [ph:L]
