The scabbard shown here is of the 1863 pattern which contains eight copper rivets, 4 of which are located on the frog and 4 on the scabbard’s throat. This pattern of 8 copper rivet arrangements, which superseded the earlier pattern of only 2 rivets, were added to the frog in 1863 with the model being issued from 1864.

Outer surface of scabbard and frog are supple with overall light crazing and shrinking of the frog loop. Brass tip in place with all pins present.  All stitching is tight and secure and what remains of an oval manufacturer’s stamp is visible on the inner face of the frog loop – no other markings are noted.  [cm][ph:L]
