The 7-rivet design was officially adopted by the US Army in February 1863 as a replacement for the Pattern 1859 "2-rivet" scabbard and has become an iconic piece of Federal Civil War equipment.

This example is in excellent, unissued condition.  It is virtually free of any damage or overt wear.  No crazing, cracking, or creases are noted – though the frog is dry, it remains somewhat supple.  All rivets show a gentle darkened tone and remain secure.  The stitching along the rear body seam is intact and strong and the finial remains fixed in place by the four original pins at the base.  Scabbard measures 19.25” in length from the throat to the tip of the finial.
