Spurs were, of course, standard issue to mounted enlistedmen in the cavalry, drivers in the light artillery and members of the horse artillery. They were also a natural requirement for any officer serving mounted, who would be supplying his own. This is a nice pair with no bends or breaks, non-excavated and with the rowels complete and in place.
The heel band is convex and ends in the usual flat plate at each end slotted for spurs straps, with the plates nicely rounded at the corners. The neck comes off the upper curve of the heel band and is flat on the sides, flaring slightly toward the rounded tip. The iron rowels are there and complete, showing some light brown corrosion, but no loss to the tips, which are shallow and cast as the ends of radiating sun beams or rays, setting these a little above the standard issue M1859 cavalry spurs with flat rowels and making them likely a private purchase by a soldier or officer.
