This elegant martingale is trimmed in yellow leather and would make an excellent addition to a cavalry officer’s display. All straps, loops, etc., are in place and secure. Set up as a running martingale, this has a central brass heart 2 3/4 inches wide and 3 ¼ inches tall with an applied U.S. with upraised wings, clutching arrows and olive branch with an E PLURIBUS UNUM ribbon in arc overhead joining the wings. This is mounted on a leather heart-shaped pad with a thinner yellow leather sewn to upper side. The same yellow leather then extends along the middle of the two straps extending to either side from the lobes of the heart, each measuring about 24 ½ inches along the bottom edge from the point of the heart, and terminating in bridle leather billets that buckle back on themselves for attachment to the saddle. From the upper center of the heart extends a bridle leather strap that splits about 10 inches above the heart, each branch holding a large plated ring to run along the reins. From behind the lower point of the heart extend two long straps with billet and buckle to fasten around the saddle girth strap.

The color of the yellow facing leather is excellent and a warm mustard in tone. There are a couple of loose stitches along the edge from flexing, but no tears or holes.  [sr] [ph:L]
