These popular decorative pieces were made between the 16th and 18th centuries. Made to order as single wall tiles, or joined together to create large tableaus.

The city of Delft in Holland is renowned for its Delft Blue, inspired from Chinese porcelain, which was highly revered, and copied by the Dutch potters who started making Delft Blue pieces (with clay coated with a tin glaze after it was fired).

These tiles are likely from the mid- to late-18th century (possibly older) and measure approximately 5" x 5".  All feature glazed blue scenes on white clay tiles. All exhibit some amount of wear around the edges and traces of mortar.

Image of bridge or dike with sailboats in distance. “Spider” corner motifs. Measures 5.1” x 5.14” x 0.33”. [JET] [PH:L]
