A great pair of Civil War period sheet brass collapsible camp candlesticks. Often known as “donut” style candle holders, the sockets unscrew allowing the saucer bases to screw together to form a donut shape (with sockets stored inside) for travelling purposes.
The bases measure 3.5" in diameter. The candle sockets stand straight, the screw threads work fine, and both halves are nice and tight when screwed together.
This type of candlesticks have been found among Civil War soldiers' effects, recovered from camp sites, and an identical pair is illustrated in Schuyler, Hartley and Graham's 1864 catalog.
The brass has a wonderful smooth age patina. [jet] [ph:L]
