Major General Andrew Jackson was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal by the United States of America in 1815 for his actions in the Battle of New Orleans. Offered here is a bronze restrike created by the U.S. Mint.
The medal was designed by artist Moritz Furst. This heavy bronze edition measures 2.5” in diameter and is 0.175” thick. The front features a bust of Jackson with MAJOR GENERAL ANDREW JACKSON surrounding at the edge. The back has the United States bearing an olive branch assisting Winged Victory; surrounded above with “RESOLUTION OF CONGRESS FEBRUARY 27. 1815.” And below, “BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS / JANUARY 8. 1815.” And below that in very small letters, the artist's name, “FURST. F.”
