Charming woman’s hat c.1890s. Made of alternating bands of ecru horsehair braid and natural straw braided with a dagged edge. The wide brim narrows slightly at the sides and is turned up in the back. The conical crown, made of bands of horsehair braid, adds a touch of whimsy. A wreath of pale pink silk flowers, green leaves, and loops of pale-yellow ribbon circles the crown. The inside edge of the brim is trimmed with gold cotton braid in a looped pattern. An original antique brass hat pin with an embossed circular end is still attached. Good- very good condition, with minor damage to one small area of the dagged edging on the right side of the brim.
