Woman’s black silk velvet toque c.1910-1915 with dramatic asymmetrical brim. The left front of the turned back brim is accented with a full-sized taxidermied black bird with long wispy feather accent, and a multi-pleated black silk grosgrain bow. The edge of the brim is trimmed with a flat braid woven with narrow metal lace edges and black straw insertion. The crown is padded with a thin layer of cotton flannel and lined with black Silesia.
The rounded crown measures 23¾” inside diameter, 8½” front-to-back, and 6½” side-to-side. The asymmetrical brim is 2½” tall on the right side, rising to 6½” tall on the left side. Condition very good.
