The bonnet, machine sewn with both lockstitch and chain stitches from ivory ribbed silk and very fine ivory silk organza, is styled with a high brim and close-fitting crown; both are drawn over wires. The front of the brim features multiple rows of silk organza puffings raised between the wires; the back of the brim features flat puffings between the wires. The ribbed silk crown is gathered over seven wires spaced ½" apart. The silk is then formed into narrow directional pleats where it meets the bottom of the bonnet. Silk ribbon ending in bows trims the lower edge of the crown in the back, with two small bows at the left side and four larger bows and multiple loops at the right side. A large bow with four loops and two ends is attached to the center front of the crown. The bonnet is padded with wool batting and lined with very lightweight plain-weave silk. Original ivory silk ribbon ties.
Measurements: Crown 15" at front edge, 10" at back bottom edge, 5" deep. Brim 25" at front edge, 4¼" high at center front. Bow on top of crown 8" wide. Ribbon ties 2½" wide and 18" long.
Good Condition: One 1" area where the fabric has pulled away from the stitching on the back of the brim, some discoloration on the interior; some small spots on the ribbon ties. [cs] [PH:L]
