Socks are in worn condition. The wool is nicely woven. One sock has a small hole at the toe. The other sock has more wear in the heel, ball of foot, and toe areas. Heel has cotton patch that was also worn through. Machine woven with top edge finished.
19th century socks are not often seen and this would be a great pair to use to fill out a display of soldier items. These are from the Texas Civil War Museum Collection. [jet][ph:L]
