1840-1860 Blue plaid winter cloak from the Texas Civil War Museum, previously part of the Tasha Tudor Collection. The cloak is styled with a calf-length body, an attached hip length cape, a wide collar, and two pocket slits under the cape. All of the outer edges of the collar, cape, and cloak are trimmed with three parallel rows of narrow black velvet ribbon. The cloak is made of wool flannel woven in blue, brown, and cream plaid. The wool is pieced at the right front waist with the plaid carefully matched. The brown cotton lining is wadded with wool batting. Hooks-and-eyes close the front from neck to waist. There is a hanging loop made from the lining fabric at the neck. The cloak is entirely hand-sewn.
Measurements: Length: Body of cloak = 45", body of cape = 27", collar = 5½" deep. Circumference: Body of cloak = 120", body of cape = 80", collar at outer edge = 27"
Condition: Very good. A few worn spots on the lining at the neckline. [cs][ph:L]
