Charming black silk velvet bonnet c.1880 with feathers from the Texas Civil War Museum. This demure little bonnet is made from rich black silk velvet that is gathered and ruched into an appealing arrangement of pleats, curves, and bows. It is mounted on a wire and pasteboard frame. The front brim is accented with a dramatic rich purple bow, ruched and beaded ivory velvet trimming twisted into loops and accented with beaded flowers, and a circular ornament made from light brown velvet with an edging of dried flowers. As if that isn’t enough, a large cockade of black feathers adorns the left side of the brim, and a dramatic curl of egret feathers accents the right side. The bonnet is lined with black glazed cotton; the ties are black velvet ribbon.
Condition: Good-very good. All fabrics and trimmings are solid and intact. [cs][ph:L]
