Young lady’s or petite woman’s sheer ivory net and lace lingerie dress c.1890-1900 from the Texas Civil War Museum. The dress is made from fine cotton net, embellished with floral patterns created with narrow braid and openwork Venice lace appliques. The unlined dress would have been worn over an ivory underdress.
The bodice is lightly-gathered at the center front and center back waist. Three vertical rows of the lace braidwork and embroidery, each separated with four rows of spaced 1/16" tucks, accent the front of the bodice. The back of the bodice is also accented with three vertical rows of the floral braidwork. The pattern of the lace is carefully matched at the center back hook-and-eye opening. The bodice has a round neckline with a 1½" high standing collar embellished with 1/16" vertical tucks spaced ¼" apart. A very fine white lace edging finishes the top of the collar. A ¾" band of white silk accents the waist.
The full elbow-length sleeves are heavily embellished with the lace braidwork. Vertical gathers at the top of the sleeves create a bow-shaped puff at the shoulders that showcase a circular Venice lace applique directly below it. A series of horizontal pleats on the sleeve seams create additional puffed shaping that is held in place with a linen tape stay running the length of the inside of the sleeve. The bottom of each sleeve ends in a 2½" deep band.
The full, gored skirt is lightly gathered at the waist with stacked pleats at the center back to add fullness. The skirt is also embellished with vertical rows of the floral braidwork and Venice lace appliques. A 15" deep gathered flounce finishes the bottom of the skirt, accented with horizontal rows of the braidwork and lace where the flounce joins the skirt and at the hem.
Condition: Very good - excellent. Net and lace embellishments are intact; no visible rips or tears; one area of very light discoloration on inside of upper back closure.
Measurements: Bust 30", waist 21", skirt length 39", circumference at lower edge 220", overall length 54". [cs][ph:L]

This is a very nice CDV photograph of Charles E. Crow in Confederate uniform. It appears to be a second-generation image; photo of an existing photo. Regardless, the picture is clear with good contrast. Crow wears a Confederate 2nd lieutenant's,… (1138-988). Learn More »
