A snapshot of a late Victorian bride as viewed through her 7-piece wedding ensemble, consisting of the wedding dress, veil, corset, petticoat, fan, gloves, and shoes worn by Ida Metts when she married William Pearce in 1880, from the collection of the Texas Civil War Museum.

The one-piece natural form dress is made from lightweight silk woven in a subtle pattern. It is styled with a square neckline with collar and elbow length sleeves, both finished with a lace edging. The center front features an insert of plain silk; the front closure fastens with 16 self-fabric buttons; the top button is missing but concealed by a ribbon bow. The full-length dress has slight draping at the rear and has seven rows of self-fabric ruffles at the bottom of the center front insert. It is lined with ivory silk; the train has starched sheer cotton dust ruffle.

The veil is made from fine cotton bobbinet embroidered with flowers on the front edges, and fine lace edging along the front and bottom edges. The veil is gathered at the top and attached to a narrow wire bandeau wrapped with white silk.

The white satin corset features a curved steel busk, white silk flossing at the bottoms of each of the steel bone casings, center back opening laced with the original woven ribbon laces, and a wide band of lace edging along the top of the corset. A waist stay on the inside of the corset with a trademark “PD” and the words “Made in Belgium”.

The petticoat is made from finely-woven white cotton. It is cut with gored panels with additional fullness in the back and has three rows of 3" self-fabric ruffles at the bottom edge. The waistband fastens at the center back with a button and button hole.

The bridal fan is ivory satin hand-painted with a pale floral design. The cover is mounted to bone ribs.

Her ivory leather bridal shoes are styled with curved 1" heels and narrow straps over the instep. The vamps and straps are accented with a pattern of pierced holes, each hole edged with small glass beads creating a floral motif.

The long, unlined leather gloves extend to above the elbow, with a three-button opening on each wrist.

Condition: Very good-excellent. All items are in good condition with no obvious tears or stains. The shoes show signs of additional wear but are in good shape.
