This compact brass chamberstick takes its name from the shape of its base: a low, rounded dish that looks like half a donut. The base is formed from a single piece of sheet brass with a rolled rim, rising to a raised central boss. It is hollow underneath, like an inverted bowl.
The holder comes apart into two pieces. A threaded brass post projects from the center of the base, and the candle cup fastens onto it. The cup is a tapered cylinder with a flared, rolled lip at the top and a narrow collar at its foot that seats against the boss. Because it breaks down this way, it could easily be packed and carried, which made such low holders practical for traveling, camp, or bedside use. It is small and sturdy, and it sits flat and steady.
Dimensions (approximate):
Base diameter: 3 1/2"
Candle cup length (removed from base): 1 1/2"
Candle cup rim diameter: 1"
Overall height, assembled: approx. 2 1/4"
Condition:
The holder is in good, honest condition with a warm, mellow golden patina that has not been over-polished.
Overall, this is a solid example showing genuine age and use, with no apparent damage beyond normal surface wear. It is ready to display as is, or it can be lightly cleaned. [stp][ph:L]
