Original and intact chess/checker board with box of checkers.  The board measures 11 1/8” by 11 1/8”.  In one of the corners there is a 2” sliver of wood missing.  There are 64 alternating colored square pieces enclosed in a raised board frame.  Each piece ranges in size from 1 ½” to 1 5/16” with some discoloration on the striations, mainly the darker pieces.  On reverse there is a glued newspaper quadrant from the Democratic Standard dated September 17, 1862.

The accompanying checker box, contains 9 black/brown and 9 red wooden quarter sized checker pieces.  The box is wood with glued blue paper wrapping the box.  On the blue paper is very faint yellow scroll decorative motifs. There is a penny sized dark discoloration mark on the lid.  The box measures 5” long, 1 6/16” high, and 2 11/16” wide.  On the inside of the lid there is an article clipping of the dedication of a monument to the 26th Pennsylvania Regiment.  The box opens with a metal hinge.
