This wooden fife is a wonderful example of a typical musical wind instrument of the mid-19th century.

In good original condition, this Civil War-era cylindrical fife measures 14.5” long and is made of rosewood. There are 1.15” long brass ferrules at both ends. Brass pieces are plain, with the one at the blow hole end being a little banged up on the end.

Featured on the tapered body are six evenly spaced narrow finger holes. The mouth hole is located at the opposite end.

Instrument is in very good overall condition with light wear. The surface is smooth and clean. Faintly stamped “F & H” with a lone “C” stamped about a half inch below the “H”.  [jet][ph:L]
