This is a great example of a Civil War period combination knife, fork, and spoon. This is the type that separates into two halves so you could hold the knife in one hand and the fork / spoon in the other.
The wood handles show light wear but remain in very good condition with an ebony color. Knife blade, spoon, and two-tine fork all operate smoothly. The wo halves separate once the knife blade is unfolded. Blade is marked “NEW YORK / KNIFE CO. / WALDEN, N.Y.”
This “Union” utensil set was a common item, sold by camp sutlers to countless soldiers. [jet]
