This antique coal oil cooking stove is in good working order and came from a Hershey Museum Auction.  It is a New – Leader (likely by the Leader brand of NY) No. 1 with an 1894 Patent. It retains the original wick and most parts of the body, made of cast iron with minimal surface rust.  The reservoir stopper/cork is missing, the mica window is missing (with a missing mounting tab), and the small closure tab at the base of the chimney is broken.  The advancing knob works as intended to retract and advance the wick.

An old, handwritten tag, apparently circa 1947, attributes the stove to a “Chris Brady” of the 19th US Infantry – a regiment which saw heavy service in Puerto Rico during the Spanish American War and the Philippines.  The stove measures 9” in height and 4.5” in width.

An ideal and functional piece for any Spanish American War or early 20th century display.  [cm][ph:L]
