Dating to Lee’s death in October 1870, this is a black fabric cockade made in three overlapping tiers sewn to a round, open web backing, mounted with a pinback gilt brass oval photo brooch carrying an oval portrait bust of Lee uniform. The cockade is 2-3/8 inches in diameter. The brooch measures 5/8 inch by 7/8 inch. The condition is excellent with no tears or missing pieces to the cockade, just a couple of small rubs to the black finish at very bottom edge, some rubbing to the edges of the brooch frame, and small spotting to the image inside it. This would go well with a display of Confederate veterans’ material. [sr][PH:L]
