Offered here is a Civil War-era wood handled pewter ink stamping device.

With a turned wood handle on top, this pewter ink stamping device was made to hold interchangeable letters. A deep slot held whatever letters were inserted in a Letter-Press printing style. The stamping device features a patriotic American eagle crest above the letter slot and wreath with field of stars below. A screw, now missing, kept the printing letters tight. No printing letters/numbers are included. Piece measures 2” wide x 2” tall.

Perfect item for a soldier to mark his clothes or stamp letters and documents.  Very fine condition.  [jet] [ph:L]
