The scene captured here was a day of remembrance at Oakwoods Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois. Similar scenes would take place throughout the neighboring cities and state on the same day. Pictured to the left is GAR veteran Cyris Hecox and to the right is Commander Frank Munsell, both of Lincoln Post No. 91. The young girl is Barbara Owens placing flowers on her great- great grandfather’s grave.
