Original black and white photo postcard of Indians. Titled “Celilo Indians – Celilo, Oregon” at bottom, left. Outdoor image with subjects dressed in mixed clothing. Photo credit is in lower, right corner, “christian 415-1.”

Measures approximately 5.5” x 3.5” and has no folds or creases.

The Celilo Indians are a group of Native American tribes that fished, traded, and socialized at Celilo Falls on the Columbia River for thousands of years. The construction of The Dalles Dam in 1957 flooded Celilo Falls, destroying the fishery and village. The dam created Celilo Lake, and the Celilo Village residents were relocated to the rimrock walls of the gorge.   [jet][ph:L]
